Teaching Artist Philosophy: “Creativity is a force, an energy, that is loaded with the power to transform.  Creativity transforms simple ideas into things that we can experience with our 5 senses…and with our souls.  So as an artist, I use my creativity to connect with other souls, to heal my soul, and to transform the lives of others — as well as my own life.”


Karla Nweje is a choreographer, dancer, literary artist, and arts educator.  She holds a BFA in Dance Performance & Composition from Brooklyn College/CUNY and has performed and toured with dance and theater companies. She has been choreographing for and performing in concerts, plays, ballets, and festivals for almost two decades and has produced several bodies of stage work. In the educational arena, Ms. Nweje served as both an academic school teacher and a dance specialist.  An avid teaching artist for over 15 years, Karla received the 2013 Excellence in Education Service Award by the Education Department of Ordway Center for the Performing Arts.  Within the state of Minnesota and beyond, she cultivates partnerships across organizations, programs, and school districts to make quality arts experiences accessible to all learners. Ms. Nweje is on several artist rosters and is pleased to be entering her third season as a Cowles Center Teaching Artist
