The Cowles Center invites Minnesota-based artists or organizations to submit proposals for engagement and community events that bring a unique perspective, discussion and/or education opportunity to the Minnesota arts community. Selected Artists and organizations will work with Cowles Center staff to produce an event rooted in dance that serves a specified community and provides access to quality arts experiences. Proposal applications will open on November 1, 2017, with 2-3 artist selections quarterly.

Who is Eligible:

  • Pre-emerging, Emerging, and Established Artists of any medium
  • Dance Companies
  • Community Arts Organizations

Event Guidelines:

  • Accepted proposals may utilize The Cowles Center’s Target Education Studio or one of The Cowles Center’s dance studios. The U.S. Bank Atrium is available; however, the event must be self-contained (no electrical equipment, projectors, amplification, etc.). Events may not use The Goodale Theatre or additional Cowles production equipment.
  • Tables and chairs are available and will be set up and taken down for your event by facility staff.
  • Accessibility is a core value of this program. Events may not be a ticketed event; however, suggested donation or sliding scale are okay.
  • Events may be presented in a series, but proposed ongoing series will be limited to 3 occurrences and then evaluated with Cowles staff.
  • Events may occur during the day, evening or weekend, depending on facility availability. Due to other programming in the facility, extensive load-in/load-out times or extended (multi-day) use will generally not be permitted.
  • Accepted proposals will meet with Cowles staff to determine final dates and parameters.
  • All marketing must be approved by Cowles staff.
  • Event producers must fill out a short post-event evaluation.

Additional Questions:

  • My project/event wasn’t selected for the first round of proposals. Can I apply for the same project/event again? Yes.
  • I’d love to teach a dance class. Is this the right fit for me? Dance classes on their own will not be competitive. Events are most successful when they incorporate a visiting artist, unique partnership, or a unique perspective.

Deadlines
Proposals are reviewed quarterly by Cowles Center staff. The number of selected proposals will vary each quarter, subject to capacity and resource availability; however, we hope to partner with two artists/organizations each quarter. All applicants will be contacted no later than 30 days after each deadline. All applications are due at 11:59 pm CST on their deadline date.
