THE GENERATING ROOM: OPEN PROPOSAL INITIATIVE

The Cowles Center invites Minnesota-based artists or organizations to submit applications for the Generating Room: Open Proposal Initiative. This initiative provides marketing support and free space in the Target Education Studio (TES) for artists to generate movement, community and/or discussion over the course of a project without the barrier of studio rental fees.

Selected artists and organizations will meet with Cowles Center Education and Community Engagement staff over the course of their proposed timeline to strategize how to serve a specified community and provide access to quality arts experiences. Artists or organizations from outside of Minnesota may partner on the event, but the lead applicant must be based in Minnesota.

The Cowles Center is looking for proposals that have an intended audience and have thoughtfully considered how to promote their project. Competitive applications will bring a unique perspective, discussion and/or engagement opportunity to the Minnesota arts community.

Open Proposal Initiatives may consist of (but not limited to):
-TES Residency (Rehearsal space to experiment with material which culminates in an informal showing)
-Workshop Series
-Critical Conversation (Roundtable or Panel Discussion which centered around relevant topics facing the performing arts community)
-Other

Benefits of Open Proposal Initiatives:
-Unlimited free space in the Target Education Studio (subject to availability)
-$20 Community Partnership rental rate for studio use outside of the proposed project
-Promotion in The Cowles Center season program, website, newsletters, and social media accounts as well as posts in DanceMN through The Cowles Center's Marketing Department
-Access to all photos & videos taken by The Cowles Center during the project

Proposals are reviewed three times per year by Cowles Center staff. The number of selected proposals will vary each selection, subject to capacity and resource availability; however, we hope to partner with two-to-three artists and/or organizations per review. All applicants will be contacted no later than 2 weeks after each deadline. All applications are due at 11:59pm CST on their deadline date.
