Twin Cities Ballet, the company that created the groundbreaking event, Pink Floyd’s The Wall: A Rock Ballet, is excited to present Essence, a mixed program of new and popular works, which range from contemporary to neoclassical ballet. The program features the premiere of two new pieces: Red is a world premiere piece that features an all-female ensemble of dancers and is loosely inspired by The Handmaid's Tale. Also new, The Firebird: Essence of Being, uses excerpts from Stravinsky's The Firebird Suite, to explore the dynamics—strife and resolution—of cross-cultural relationships.

Returning to The Cowles Center is Twin Cities Ballet's acclaimed Victor Frankenstein, an introspective exploration of the thematic elements of the gothic novel, Frankenstein, and the popular original work, Classicana, which showcases the artistry, technique, musicality, and precision that are the essence of quality classical ballet. This evening of relevant and approachable works highlights Twin Cities Ballet's artistic vision and innovation, and its dancers’ versatility and talent. Essence promises a meaningful and entertaining experience for all—long-term ballet enthusiasts, those new to ballet, and fans of more contemporary dance alike.

About Twin Cities Ballet of Minnesota
Twin Cities Ballet of Minnesota (TCB) is an innovative ballet company that creates high quality, professional performances, and meaningful educational opportunities for audiences and participants alike, throughout the Metro and beyond. TCB’s home and official school is Ballet Royale Minnesota, widely recognized as one of the foremost classical ballet academies in the state.

TCB is reigniting the passion for ballet in Minnesota by creating both original story ballets in the tradition of the classics—a rare and nearly lost art—and contemporary ballet works that delve into deeper thematic and emotional aspects in a more minimalist and abstract way. As part of its mission, TCB also provides student dancers with the rare and memorable experience of dancing alongside the highest level professional dancers in a way that enhances the performances for all. TCB demonstrates that professional ballet is approachable, meaningful, relevant and inspiring, and thriving in the Twin Cities.
