Saint Paul Ballet returns to The Cowles with a dance concert of familiar line and fresh images. Emerging and established choreographers paint their musical phrases with dynamic grace, heart and engaging sincerity as this fledgling company finds its place in contemporary ballet.

This show mixes classical ballet, modern, and contemporary work in contrasting pieces by four guest choreographers and the Ballet’s Artistic Director, Zoé Emilie Henrot. Local favorite Lirena Bratniski brings you her spirited and rich work in the Spanish style “Capriccio Espagnol”, a premier for Saint Paul Ballet. Another regional premier by returning choreographer Joseph Morrissey, “Mein Weg” demonstrates his contemporary dynamism for ballet and will accompany a re-staging of the duet “One”, which received a Sage Award for Outstanding Performer, Andrew Lester in 2012. Other works include “Blind Contour” by 3rd Law Dance Theater’s Katie Elliot, an ephemeral piece that is as much about the practice of drawing as it is about dance and “Nadine” and “Gray Matter by Zoé Emilie Henrot. The program closes with the full company in “Shifts,a work by Kinsun Chan that plays with “seeing” music. The piece was choreographed for Zoe Henrot four years ago; cellist Adam Stiber will join the dancers on stage.

Run time: 2 hrs, 20 minutes, including 20 minute intermission.
