James Sewell Ballet presents two new works by nationally acclaimed choreographer Jennifer Hart and James Sewell Ballet veteran Eve Schulte and remounts Sewell’s “Opera Moves.” Hart’s choreography has been deemed “not only inventive but heart-rending,” and she returns to James Sewell Ballet (following 2007’s “Lightspace”) to create a new vibrant work. Eve Schulte builds sweeping and delicate movement to songs about the concept of leaving. Rounding out the evening, James Sewell Ballet classic “Opera Moves” showcases the troupe’s balletic elegance to moving operatic selections.

Hailed as a choreographer “with an imagination so exuberant that one could not be sure how one movement led to the next” and “not only inventive but heart-rending,” Jennifer Hart has been commissioned by Ballet Austin, Ballet Austin ll, Ballet Nouveau Colorado (now Wonderbound), James Sewell Ballet, Minnesota Dance Theater, The Walker Art Center’s Momentum Series, The McKnight Fellowship for Dancers, Metropolitan Ballet Project, University of Kansas, University of Massachusetts, Lawrence Ballet Theatre, and Merick Strategies for its production of Leonard Bernstein's "Mass."

Join James Sewell Ballet for FirstChanceDance, a sensory-friendly, guided performance for little ones. Future fans ages 3-12 (and their families!) are introduced to the joy and beauty of classical ballet by the company's dancers. Members of James Sewell Ballet will perform repertory highlights along with audience participation and engaging activities. The performance will conclude with a costume parade on the Goodale Theater stage just in time for Halloween.
