FIRST MOVES RESIDENCY

FREE PROGRAM FOR MPS 1ST GRADE STUDENTS & TEACHERS

WHAT IS IT?

An expansion of MPS Cultural Experiences Partnerships program, this four day residency brings a Cowles Center Teaching Artist directly into all MPS 1st Grade PE Classes.

The First Moves residency ties into two key Minnesota Physical Education Standards: demonstrating competency in motor skills and movement patterns, and understanding movement concepts, principles, strategies and tactics by examining creative movement.

WHO CAN SIGN UP?

All 1st Grade MPS PE teachers.

HOW IS THIS PAID FOR?

Funded by a grant from AROHA Philanthropies, these residencies will offer exposure to quality arts education, enhance current Minnesota Physical Education standards and empower PE teachers to incorporate vocabulary and concepts into PE curriculum.

IS A PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DAY INCLUDED?

Yes. All PE teachers are strongly encouraged to attend one of the professional development meetings prior to your school's residency. Sub stipends are covered by the grant from AROHA Philanthropies.
