Render the Wake

Render the Wake is an evening of new works by Deanna Gooding and Eve Schulte, as well as a remount of Schulte's 'Any Offered None' (nominated for a 2016 MN Sage Award for Outstanding Performance).

A new duet featuring Deanna and Brian J. Evans explores what passion is expected to look like versus how it truly feels--especially in the vernacular of the abstract unknown. Live strings accompaniment by Jack Rice entwines these curiosities further.

Another new duet by Deanna, featuring Nicky Coelho dancing and husband Altamir Coelho playing a new composition on bass guitar, looks at dialogue and commitment of human connection, as well as the constant rediscovering of individuality and tethered growth.

A new solo work choreographed and danced by Eve unpacks the beauty in failure and honor in owning up to shame with the luscious, moody musical underpinnings of Cat Power.

A re-staging of Eve's 'Any Offered None', which premiered last February in JSB's Ballet Works Project, rounds out the evening with exquisite physicality and moving, subtle narrative. Featuring dancers Deanna Gooding, Nicky Coelho, Shohei Iwahama, Jordan Lefton, and Sam Feipel, moving to Chopin, Emilíana Torrini, and Nine Inch Nails.

Deanna Gooding has been in the Twin Cities for two and a half years and enjoys spending time being creative. She started dancing at Londonderry Dance Academy in New Hampshire. After high school Deanna studied at the San Francisco Conservatory of Dance under the direction of Summer Lee Rhatigan. She currently dances for James Sewell Ballet.

Eve Schulte is a dance performer and instructor based in Minneapolis, MN. She grew up at Minnesota Dance Theatre, is in her eighth season with the James Sewell Ballet, and is a frequent collaborator with Live Action Set. More info at
